Silent pitch: Vijay visits church, mosque, temple in Trichy East
Trichy: TVK leader and Trichy East candidate Vijay held a low-key roadshow on Sunday evening, covering five wards without addressing a public meeting but making symbolic visits to places of worship.Arriving at Trichy International Airport around 3pm, Vijay was received by party functionaries and candidates from neighbouring constituencies before beginning his campaign along Wireless Road. Despite the sultry weather, crowds gathered along the route, with supporters arriving from Trichy East, Srirangam, Trichy West and nearby constituencies. Vijay visited St Antony's Church on Wireless Road, where he offered prayers, lit a candle and made the sign of the cross. He also performed a kneel walk. At the Noorul Hudah Mosque in KK Nagar, he was received by representatives and draped with a shawl. Before departing for Chennai, he offered prayers at the Kottapattu Pachanachi Amman Temple, where priests honoured him. The roadshow caused traffic disruptions for a few hours in parts of Racecourse Road, Khajamalai and Kottapattu. TVK candidates R Kathiravan (Manapparai) and Ku Pa Krishnan (Lalgudi) accompanied him.
Supporters presented gifts, including photo frames, one featuring Lord Ranganathar of Srirangam. "I came to see Vijay. He is attracting a huge crowd and projecting himself as an alternative to Dravidian and national parties," said S Ganesan, 84, a resident of TVS Nagar. Some cadres, however, expressed disappointment that Vijay did not address the gathering. MSID:: 130373189 413 |
